INSPIRING FUTURE LEADERS
Former QUEST students Gavin Applewhite and Dustin Beard discuss the ROTC program with 3rd and 4th-grade QUEST students. They will be mentoring these groups this semester showing our younger generation the power of dedication and service.

Grant Crockett, director of the Lafayette Career & Technical Center, and Inda Linzy, counselor, presented Lafayette High School students with their National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification. Sixty students are now certified in areas regarding construction and welding.
NCCER is a not-for-profit organization established in 1996 that provides standardized training and industry-recognized credentialing with specializations in over 70 craft areas.

It's a sweep for the Commodores! 🧹⛳
Lafayette Girls and Boys Golf Team for sweeping both matches at Pontotoc CC.
On the leader board for the boys was Easton Thompson and the girls were anchored by Ainslee Everett.

Mrs. Whitten started a new trend at Lafayette Upper Elementary. With the help of her husband, she created the Anchor Teacher Award to pass from one teacher to another who has inspired, encouraged, or motivated them. The first recipient is Mr. Kyzar. Thank you Mrs. Whitten for starting such a motivating tradition for the faculty and staff.

Mrs. Threlkeld’s first-grade class read "My Mouth is a Volcano" by Julia Cook earlier this week. The students created volcanos and made them erupt. The experiment was a cool way to connect science and reading in the classroom.

If you're in town, you should go cheer on the Commodores at OHS for an exciting tri-match versus Northwest Ranking and Oxford.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY
We completed the first full week of the school year. Well done, Commodores!
We wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of our community members and local businesses for dedicating resources and time to serve our staff to start the year on a great note.

The new lock screen football schedule just dropped. #almostthere

CHARGE Syndrome Awareness Day
We love our fearless Commodore Ollie and stand together to support this monumental day.
The first paper on the discovery of the CHD7 gene was published by Professor Conny van Ravenswaaij-Arts (August 8, 2004). This day aims to raise awareness of the variability of CHARGE syndrome to help improve diagnosis and access to best practice interventions.

MAIN CAMPUS AFTERNOON TRAFFIC UPDATE
We want to thank everyone for their patience and generosity in working with our staff daily to ensure the Commodore experience is great.
We have an update on minor changes to the afternoon traffic on the main campus. We implement these changes for the safety of our students and drivers as we flow traffic during bus waves.
1. Car rider pick locations are only at the front of each building (LUES, LMS, and LHS).
2. South Commodore Dr, the road behind the LMS Gym, will now be closed to traffic.
3. LHS drivers exiting the LMS back parking lot will exit directly from Commodore Dr onto HWY 334 (green arrows).
4. The point beyond the LMS back parking lot will be one-way traffic for the bus lane and the lower athletics parking lot heading out to LUES. LHS drivers parked in the athletics parking lot will have to exit toward LUES and loop if exiting during dismissal.

Lafayette Upper Elementary parents are invited to attend our annual Title 1 meeting at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 in the LUES 3-5 Library. Doors will open at 4:45.
