TASTY 3D SHAPES
Ms. Monroe’s 1st grade class explored 3D shapes in a fun and tasty way. With help from generous parent volunteers, students sorted snacks shaped like cones, cylinders, and rectangular prisms, then discussed each shape’s attributes, including edges, vertices, and faces. Hands-on learning has never been so sweet!

ART COLLABORATION
Ms. Amy’s 2nd-grade artists from Ms. Holcomb’s class at LES dreamed up their very own Squishmallow characters on paper. Then, the talented students in Mrs. Patton’s Art 2 class at LMS took those designs and worked their magic—turning them into real 3D Squishmallows using felt and other fun materials!
The middle schoolers made a special trip to LES to personally deliver each custom-made Squishmallow to its proud 2nd-grade designer.
This heartwarming collaboration is a perfect example of how art connects us across grades and campuses.

LCSD will be closed this Friday, April 18, 2025. We will reopen on Monday!

A Special Author Visit at Lafayette Elementary!
We were honored to welcome local author and illustrator Brandall Laughlin to Lafayette Elementary School, where she shared her delightful book, "Do Butterflies Make Butter?"—a story inspired by her son, Walker.
Mrs. Slone's art classes took this experience to the next level by creating projects based on the book’s illustrations. Students enjoyed spotting the hidden tractor on each page while exploring the global journeys of butterflies. They connected their Van Gogh-inspired mural in our school hallway to the book’s sunflower artwork.
This collaboration was a heartfelt tribute to Brandall, her son, and the wonderful story she has shared with the world. And after much discussion, our students officially decided—yes, butterflies DO make butter!
Thank you, Brandall Laughlin, for your visit!
